About the PSEO program

Small, faith-centered, and personal — that is the pitch at Oak Hills Christian College, a private college in Bemidji where PSEO students join a tight campus community rather than disappearing into large lecture halls. For north-central Minnesota students who want their free college classes in an explicitly Christian environment, Oak Hills is the region's option.

Eligibility here runs on class rank rather than GPA: juniors and seniors in the top 30 percent of their class qualify, and test scores are only requested if you fall outside that top 30 percent. The application itself reflects the college's mission — it asks for two references from non-relatives who can speak to your faith, so line those up before you start.

Deadlines give you more runway than most private colleges: August 15 for fall and December 15 for spring. Combined with a campus small enough that professors know your name, Oak Hills suits students who want dual enrollment to feel like belonging somewhere, not just collecting credits.

Why choose Oak Hills Christian College for PSEO

Class rank instead of a GPA cutoff

Top 30 percent of your class gets you in, and test scores only enter the picture if your rank falls short — a different door than most colleges offer.

Late-summer application deadline

The August 15 fall deadline is one of the latest among Minnesota private colleges, useful for students who decide on PSEO over the summer.

A genuinely small campus

Oak Hills' size means small classes, direct access to faculty, and a community where PSEO students are known individuals, not ID numbers.

Faith woven into academics

Biblical studies sit at the core of the curriculum, so students seeking a Christ-centered education get it in every course, not as an add-on.

Programs & courses

  • Biblical studies core

Foundational Bible coursework anchors an Oak Hills education and is a primary reason students choose PSEO here over secular options.

  • General education in a Christian frame

Writing, communication, and humanities courses cover standard college ground while integrating a faith perspective.

  • Ministry and leadership introductions

Students weighing ministry, counseling, or Christian leadership careers can explore those directions through introductory coursework.

Campus & getting there

Oak Hills sits just south of Bemidji, the college town of Minnesota's north woods, drawing PSEO students from Bemidji-area high schools and smaller districts across Beltrami and neighboring counties. The program is campus-based and in-person, so students should plan their high school schedule around the drive. Bemidji itself hosts three PSEO-eligible institutions — Oak Hills, Bemidji State University, and Northwest Technical College — which gives local students an unusually complete set of private, university, and technical options to compare.

Will my credits transfer?

Credits from Oak Hills are private-college credits evaluated course by course when you transfer. General education subjects like composition and psychology typically move well to other colleges, while Bible and ministry coursework transfers most reliably to other Christian colleges with similar requirements. Oak Hills is outside the Minnesota State system, so there is no automatic MNTC mapping — if you plan to finish a degree at a public university, check your intended courses with that school's transfer office before registering.

Oak Hills Christian College PSEO FAQ

Juniors and seniors qualify by ranking in the top 30 percent of their high school class. If you are outside the top 30 percent, Oak Hills asks for test scores instead, so a solid ACT or similar result can still open the door. Ask admissions how they evaluate students from schools that do not rank.
