About the PSEO program

For students in northern Minnesota who want university-level PSEO, Bemidji State University is the region's anchor option. Sitting on the shore of Lake Bemidji, BSU lets qualified juniors and seniors take real university courses, in person or online, with tuition and required books covered by the state's dual enrollment program.

Admission runs on GPA: juniors need a 3.3 and seniors a 3.0, with the final call made by the university's PSEO Coordinator. The process leans on your high school counselor more than most colleges do, since counselors email the NOSR and your official transcript directly to BSU's admissions staff rather than having you submit everything yourself.

Timing is the quirk to plan around. Fall applicants are due by May 30, but applications cannot be fully completed until the Minnesota Department of Education releases the updated NOSR form, which usually happens in late January or early February. Students aiming for a fall start at Bemidji State should have everything else ready and finish the NOSR as soon as it drops. Spring applications are due December 1.

Why choose Bemidji State University for PSEO

University credits, university transcript

Your PSEO courses go on a Bemidji State transcript as regular university coursework, which reads differently to future schools and employers than community college credit and stays seamless if you continue at BSU after graduation.

The north's home-field advantage

For students in Bemidji, Cass Lake, Blackduck, Park Rapids, and surrounding districts, BSU is the closest public university offering PSEO, cutting out the long drives that keep many northern students out of dual enrollment.

Online course access

BSU runs a substantial online catalog, so students in districts hours from campus can still earn Bemidji State credit without relocating their school day.

A counselor-driven process

Because your high school counselor sends the NOSR and transcript to BSU directly, there are fewer chances for documents to get lost between parties, as long as you keep your counselor in the loop early.

Programs & courses

  • Liberal education core

Writing, communication, humanities, and social science courses that satisfy BSU's general education goals and the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum at the same time.

  • Science and math sequences

Biology, chemistry, and college math courses that let future nursing, science, and engineering students clear prerequisites early at university rigor.

  • Business foundations

Introductory business and economics coursework from one of northern Minnesota's largest business programs, useful for students eyeing a business degree anywhere.

  • Online undergraduate courses

A broad slate of online sections lets PSEO students far from Bemidji take the same courses as on-campus undergraduates.

Campus & getting there

Bemidji State's campus stretches along the west shore of Lake Bemidji in Bemidji, a city of about 15,000 that serves as the hub of north-central Minnesota. Students at Bemidji High School and TrekNorth are minutes away; those in outlying districts like Blackduck, Kelliher, or Walker typically drive in via Highways 71 and 2 or choose online sections instead. Northwest Technical College shares the city, so some students split their planning between the two.

Will my credits transfer?

Bemidji State belongs to Minnesota State, which means its general education courses carry Minnesota Transfer Curriculum goal-area credit accepted throughout the system and at the University of Minnesota. Since BSU is itself a four-year university, PSEO credits earned here are already upper-tier currency: continue at BSU and everything applies directly, or transfer and your MNTC coursework slots into another public university's requirements. Private colleges evaluate BSU credits course by course, and they generally travel well given the university transcript behind them.
