Martin Luther College
One deadline rules everything at Martin Luther College: May 1. Unlike nearly every other Minnesota PSEO institution, MLC in New Ulm uses a single application date covering both fall and spring semesters, so a student who wants free college classes here for any part of the school year needs paperwork finished each spring. Miss it, and the whole year's cycle may be closed.

MLC is the college of ministry for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, training future pastors, teachers, and staff ministers, and its campus culture reflects that mission. For PSEO students, that translates into a small, tight-knit liberal arts environment with a strong emphasis on education and the humanities. The academic bar is high for dual enrollment: juniors need a 3.5 GPA and seniors a 3.25.
The application has a personal touch built in. Applicants supply a letter of recommendation, or can substitute a personal interview with the Director of Admissions, an unusual option that favors students who present better in conversation than on paper. myPSEO covers the state requirements alongside it, generating your official NOSR form with parent and counselor signatures.
Why choose Martin Luther College for PSEO
A faith-centered campus community
As the WELS college of ministry, MLC offers PSEO students a Christian academic environment where faith and coursework are intentionally connected, a fit families specifically seek out.
An interview can replace the recommendation letter
MLC lets applicants swap the letter of recommendation for a personal interview with the Director of Admissions, giving articulate students a second way to make their case.
Small college, close faculty relationships
MLC's size means PSEO students learn in small sections with professors who know them, valuable both academically and for future references.
Strong preparation for future educators
Teacher training is central to MLC's mission, so students considering education careers get an early look at a campus built around that path.
Programs & courses
Writing and communication
Foundational composition and communication courses that anchor a college transcript and transfer as staple general education credits.
History and humanities
Liberal arts coursework in history, literature, and related fields within MLC's classical education tradition.
Mathematics and sciences
Core math and science offerings that keep college-bound students progressing on general education requirements.
Music
MLC has a strong music culture tied to its ministry training, and coursework in music is a distinctive part of its liberal arts catalog.
Campus & getting there
MLC overlooks New Ulm from a hilltop campus in south-central Minnesota, about 30 minutes west of Mankato via Highway 14 and roughly 90 minutes southwest of the Twin Cities. Coursework is in person, so realistic PSEO commuters come from New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Courtland, Nicollet, and the surrounding Brown and Nicollet County towns. There is no online PSEO option, making driving distance the deciding factor for most families.
Will my credits transfer?
Credits from MLC transfer to other colleges on a course-by-course basis, as with any accredited private college, and standard liberal arts courses travel most reliably. Students continuing at MLC itself apply PSEO credits directly toward its ministry and education degree programs. Those headed to Minnesota State universities or the University of Minnesota should confirm course equivalencies in advance, since private-college credits are evaluated individually rather than through the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
