About the PSEO program

South-of-the-river students have a strong home base for dual enrollment in Inver Hills Community College. Located in Inver Grove Heights, minutes from Eagan, South St. Paul, and West St. Paul, Inver Hills admits PSEO juniors and seniors at a 2.6 GPA, one of the more reachable bars in the east metro, and backs it up with test-score alternatives for students whose GPA does not tell the whole story.

Those alternatives matter. A junior or senior who falls short of 2.6 can still qualify with a 250 or higher on the Accuplacer reading test, a passing 10th grade Reading MCA, a 21 ACT composite, or qualifying SAT scores. Sophomores have a route too, through the 8th grade Reading MCA or Accuplacer, though state law limits them to career and technical courses. Very few students are flatly out of options here.

Planning-wise, Inver Hills posts a July 1 priority date for fall and December 1 for spring, and offers both on-campus and online courses. myPSEO checks your eligibility against these exact requirements, then builds your official NOSR form with parent and counselor signatures so nothing stalls at the paperwork stage.

Why choose Inver Hills Community College for PSEO

A 2.6 GPA gets juniors and seniors in

Inver Hills sets its GPA bar at 2.6 for both grades, lower than the 3.0 many colleges require of juniors, which opens PSEO to solid B-minus students a year earlier.

Four different test-score backdoors

Accuplacer reading, the 10th grade Reading MCA, ACT, and SAT can each substitute for GPA, so one bad stretch of grades does not close the door.

Online and in-person course options

Students can mix campus classes with online sections, which is the practical difference between fitting PSEO around a high school schedule and not.

Positioned for the south and east metro

Inver Grove Heights sits at the junction of Highways 52 and 55 near I-494, an easy reach from Eagan, Rosemount, Cottage Grove, and the St. Paul suburbs.

Programs & courses

  • Liberal arts and sciences (AA)

The core MNTC general education sequence, writing, math, sciences, and social sciences, that most PSEO students use to knock out their first two years of college.

  • Paralegal

Inver Hills is known for its paralegal program, giving students curious about law an early, practical entry point into legal studies.

  • Business

Introductory business and management coursework that transfers into four-year business programs across the state.

  • Nursing and health sciences pathways

Prerequisite courses like anatomy and physiology that pre-nursing students can complete free before the competitive program applications begin.

  • Career and technical courses

CTE options that qualifying sophomores can start with, since state law limits 10th grade PSEO to career and technical education.

Campus & getting there

The campus occupies a wooded site in Inver Grove Heights in the southeast metro, close to the Highway 52/55 corridor and about 15 minutes from downtown Saint Paul by car. Driving is the default for most students, and the location splits the difference nicely for Dakota County and southern Washington County. A meaningful share of courses also run online, letting students who cannot commute daily still enroll.

Will my credits transfer?

Inver Hills belongs to the Minnesota State system, meaning its general education lineup maps to the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, and its AA degree satisfies lower-division requirements at Minnesota State universities. Transfer Pathways in fields like business connect an associate degree here to junior standing in a matching bachelor's program. Credits also transfer readily to the University of Minnesota and private colleges course by course, making Inver Hills a low-risk place to bank your first 60 credits.

Inver Hills Community College PSEO FAQ

Juniors and seniors qualify with a 2.6 cumulative GPA. If your GPA is lower, you can still get in with a 250 or higher Accuplacer reading score, a passing 10th grade Reading MCA, a 21 or higher ACT composite, or an SAT with 530 or higher in math plus 480 or higher in evidence-based reading and writing. Sophomores qualify via an 850 on the 8th grade Reading MCA, or the Accuplacer if they did not take the MCA.
