Private College

Saint Catherine University

Saint Paul, Minnesota

Saint Catherine University takes a deliberately different approach to dual enrollment: its PSEO program is part-time only and entirely on campus. Students take at most two classes or 8 credits per semester, in person, at the university's Saint Paul campus. St. Kate's says the quiet part out loud — this program is for students who want a real college classroom experience, not a fully online credit grab.

About the PSEO program

Saint Catherine University takes a deliberately different approach to dual enrollment: its PSEO program is part-time only and entirely on campus. Students take at most two classes or 8 credits per semester, in person, at the university's Saint Paul campus. St. Kate's says the quiet part out loud — this program is for students who want a real college classroom experience, not a fully online credit grab.

PSEO students at St. Kate's study within the College for Women, the university's undergraduate day college, which enrolls women. Admission is reviewed holistically rather than against a posted GPA cutoff, so your essay, coursework, and overall record matter more than any single number. That makes St. Kate's PSEO worth a shot for strong students whose GPA alone would not clear a hard threshold elsewhere.

Timing is the strictest part: the fall 2026 application closed June 5, one of the earlier cutoffs among Twin Cities private colleges. Students interested in spring should contact the PSEO coordinator early about when applications open, and juniors planning ahead should treat late spring of the prior year as their real deadline.

Why choose Saint Catherine University for PSEO

A true on-campus college experience

Every PSEO course is taken in person at the Saint Paul campus, so students get seminar discussions, labs, and faculty relationships — not discussion boards.

Holistic admission, no GPA cutoff

St. Kate's reviews applicants as whole students, opening a door for capable applicants whose transcript alone would not clear a numeric bar.

A women's college environment

PSEO students join the College for Women, a community built around women's leadership, with small classes and strong mentorship.

A paced part-time structure

The two-class, 8-credit semester cap keeps college manageable alongside high school and pushes students toward depth over volume.

Programs & courses

  • Liberal arts core courses

Writing, literature, philosophy, and social science courses form the typical PSEO schedule and transfer widely as private university credit.

  • Sciences and pre-health foundations

St. Kate's is well known for health-care education, and PSEO students aiming at nursing or health fields can build science foundations here.

  • Women's leadership and seminar-style learning

Small discussion-driven classes in the College for Women give high schoolers early practice in the kind of academic engagement universities reward.

Campus & getting there

St. Kate's occupies a leafy residential campus in Saint Paul's Highland Park area, near the Mississippi River between downtown Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Metro Transit routes serve the surrounding avenues, and students drive in from across the east metro — Saint Paul, Mendota Heights, Eagan, Roseville, and beyond. Because the PSEO program is exclusively on campus, plan your high school schedule around travel time; most students block a morning or afternoon for their one or two St. Kate's classes and stay at their high school the rest of the day.

Will my credits transfer?

Credits earned at St. Kate's are private university credits that transfer well to other private and public institutions, evaluated course by course. As a non-Minnesota State school, St. Kate's coursework is not pre-mapped to MNTC goal areas, so students planning to finish at a public university should confirm equivalencies with that school's transfer office before registering. Students who continue at St. Kate's after high school keep every credit in place — and PSEO is a genuine preview of the College for Women experience for those considering it.
